Under a partnership arrangement with the Health and Safety Executive, City Environmental Services provides asbestos awareness and training workshops, based on original material supplied by the HSE.

Through our experience within the industry, and since the introduction of the new regulations in May 2004, the course material has been under continual review and refinement in order to provide clients with the latest and most comprehensive information and advice.

We recognise that no two clients are the same; therefore every workshop is tailored to meet individual needs.

In most cases, clients prefer to have courses presented at their own premises, attended by their own personnel and the contractors they employ.

On the other hand, organisations such as the Welsh Federation of Housing Associations and the Construction Industry Training Board prefer to run their own workshops, inviting delegates from numerous businesses and companies. CES is proud to be associated with these organisations through the provision of asbestos awareness training.

As CES is a licensed asbestos removal contractor, we are able to call on first hand experience within the company, enabling clients to benefit from our practical knowledge on developing sensible solutions to difficult problems.

Our workshops usually cover each of the following subjects, but the detail may vary according to the needs of the client:

• the effects of asbestos on health;
• other hazards, such as working at heights;
• the uses and locations of asbestos;
• the type of work allowed by law;
• the requirements of CAWR 2002;
• work methods and equipment required;
• the correct choice, use and maintenance of personal protective equipment;
• decontamination procedures;
• maintenance of control measures;
• emergency procedures;
• waste disposal.

In addition, the responsibilities of dutyholders and their managers are also dealt with, including the development of management plans, specifications, asbestos registers, Types 1, 2, and 3 surveys and risk assessments.
